Can you hear me Cupid? It's me Amanda.

Ah, the day you either absolutely love or hate, Valentines Day. Just another reminder for those that are single, that they are alone...

The word Alone seems to give off such a negative connotation doesn't it?

But is being alone really as bad as we all make it out to be, and since when is it a bad thing to be single and independent? Maybe it's because we've grown up in a society that says we all need a significant other. I mean don't get me wrong, being in love and having that one person to share everything with is an amazing feeling, but Valentines Day is not all it's cracked up to be.

For those that are taken, you should celebrate having found that one person you can give your whole heart to, and for those that are lacking in the relationship department, you should do the same. Celebrate being independent and surround yourself with the ones you love, like your family and friends.

Pop open a bottle of bubbly and toast to the wonderful things the future has in store for you. Toast to happiness. Toast to being single and ready to mingle. Toast to focusing on yourself.

At the end of the day, your happiness is what you make of it. It's easy to loathe Valentines Day and feel sorry for yourself, but all that is going to do is make you feel that much worse about yourself. Call up some friends and have a night out on the town together, or poke some fun at this love/hate holiday. Rent some of the most unromantic movies you can think of, order some take out, and just have a good time! Or you can do what I did and ask your best friend, in this case Virginia, to be your valentine. Sounds pathetic right? But it gives us a good laugh!

I can't emphasize it enough to never look for love. Expect the unexpected. Things will happen when they are meant to happen, but in the meantime focus on what makes you happy and take each day one at a time. I truly believe that things happen for a reason and that time will tell all.

Don't get too worked up over Valentines Day especially if your single, make the best of it! Being alone isn't something to be ashamed of, but something to embrace and take advantage of, for the time being that is... ;)
